Cosmetic Eye Surgery

Eyelids and the tissues surrounding the eyes are extremely thin. Itâ??s no surprise, therefore, that this tissue is easily prone to age lines, wrinkles and puffiness from years of excess exposure to the elements. Other factors such as diet and heredity also come into play.

Age, sun exposure, and hereditary factors all contribute to wrinkles, deep lines and puffiness around the eyes.

A procedure called blepharoplasty is sometimes used to reverse or minimize puffy, sagging eyelids or pouches of skin below them.

During this cosmetic procedure, an incision is made in the upper or lower lid to remove fat, muscle, and/or skin. (In lower lid blepharoplasties, incisions are made along the lash line.)

Eyebrows can be raised or forehead wrinkles can be removed through brow and forehead lifts. The procedure involves an incision across the top of the head behind the hairline to minimize visible scarring.

Laser resurfacing is another procedure that may be used to tighten the skin around the eyes, but it cannot be used to remove pouches or fatty areas.
